KUALA LUMPUR – Standing out in a landscape of iconic towers can be a tall order for even the most innovative developers, but M101 Holdings Sdn Bhd is poised to make a name by taking the term “eye-catching” to a whole new level.

In the recent unveiling of its M101 SkyWheel, a 78-storey mixed-commercial tower taking shape along Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz, the company announced that the twin tower project will not only feature state-of-the-art residential, office, retail and hospitality units, but also showcase a Ferris wheel that will adorn the top half of the structure – making it the highest Ferris wheel in the region.

What’s more, M101 SkyWheel offers the highest shopping experience in the world with a SkyMall that extends from 48th to 52nd level with over 200,000sq ft of retail space. The Ferris wheel will be located on the 52nd floor, and at its highest vantage point, it will provide a view from 220m above ground.

The aim, said M101 Holdings, is to give shoppers and visitors from around the world a unique living, working and shopping experience while enjoying the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

To help bring this vision to life, the developer has engaged the renowned European-based Studio F.A. Porsche to undertake the design and execution of interior spaces as well as the exclusive private suites and a facade theme for the towers. Even the interior cabin of the Ferris wheel will be designed by Studio F.A. Porsche.

According to Datuk Seth Yap Ting Hau, co-founder of M101 Holdings, investment in retail property remains strong and the company believes that it’s not enough to just build.

“Instead, the part played by developers and planners is crucial in realising the full potential of the real estate sector and its part in economic and social development for Malaysia,” he said.

Adding to this, another founding member of the company, Datuk Chua Eng Pu, said: “Malaysia is recognised as an important market for safe and stable investments as well as an emerging economy with world class infrastructure. Partnering with Studio F. A. Porsche, one of Europe’s leading design studios, will further help to position Kuala Lumpur to become a world-class city by 2020.”

Once completed, M101 SkyWheel will have additional draws, such as the first Planet Hollywood Hotel in Malaysia, the Culinary Heaven and various other exciting lifestyle amenities. It will also feature outstanding landscape design from award winning landscape architects Lim In Chong from Inchscape Sdn Bhd and Veritas.

“We are truly excited to take a creative part in this landmark project. Thanks to the visionary approach of M101, our studio’s design language will be a wonderful match,” said managing director of Studio F.A. Porsche Roland Heiler.

“The project is run through our Studio`s South-East Asian branch office, a big benefit because it is literally around the corner. We are proud to be able to contribute to the appeal of this great city.”

To date, M101 Holdings has already launched two key projects in KL city, namely M101 Dang Wangi and M101 Bukit Bintang, which are due to be completed by June 2017.

However, the company said that M101 SkyWheel will be the flagship project under the M101 brand, being its largest project thus far with a projected gross development value (GDV) of RM1.4 billion.

The company plans to launch a total of 10 projects under the M101 brand around KL city by the end of 2018 with a combined GDV of RM4 billion.
