The largest property exposition in Malaysia is back, and this time it is paying attention to the key elements that are driving home buyer demand: affordability and convenient connectivity.

Carrying the theme “Greater Connectivity for Better Affordable Living”, the expo organised by the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (Rehda) is taking place from April 14-16 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur. The expo will be open to the public from 10am to 9pm daily over the three-day period.

According to Rehda, the Malaysian Property Expo 2017 (or MAPEX, as it is popularly known) is the first national level expo that will be held this year and it has attracted over 50 renowned developers from across the country.

Buyers can expect a showcase that offers a wide range of properties, from affordable to exclusive as well as luxury, strata and landed properties.

Mapex focus on affordability and connectivity is timely, says Ng.

Among the participating exhibitors are Ecoworld Development Group Bhd, Mah Sing Group Bhd, Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd, SP Setia Bhd, Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB), MKH Bhd, IJM Land Berhad and Putra Nilai Development Sdn Bhd and many more.

Also present will be state related agencies such as Rumah Mampu Milik Wilayah Persekutuan (RUMAWIP) under the Ministry of Federal Territories to offer quality affordable housing to purchasers.

“With the new and improved public transportation network, it is timely that this MAPEX has been themed ‘Greater Connectivity for Better Affordable Living’. The newly launched Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and other upcoming LRT/MRT projects are set to change the people’s lifestyle that is to opt for public transportation as the main vehicle for travelling especially when commuting to work. Efficient public transportation will make our cities free from gridlock or at least less congested,” said MAPEX chairman and past Rehda president Ng Seing Liong.

“With this in mind, we are honoured to have the Ministry of Transport; Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai to officiate the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, 15 April at 2.30pm,” he said.

Apart from public talks on pertinent topics, MAPEX visitors will also have the chance to participate in a forum which has been specially organised for the event.

Based on the “Affordable Housing and Connectivity” theme, the Forum will take place on April 16, featuring renowned industry experts as the speakers namely Dato’ Wan Hashimi AlBakri (COO of Sime Darby Property/REHDA Vice President) and Elvin Fernandez (Managing Director, Khong & Jaafar Group of Companies), Dato’ Pretam Singh (Partner, Messers, Pretam Singh, Nor & Co).

Ng will also be speaking in his capacity as past Rehda president and patron of Rehda Malaysia.

Moderating the forum will be general manager of StarProperty Sdn Bhd Ernest Bernard Towle.

Those who have not yet registered to participate still have time to do so.

“We encourage public to attend the forum as you will surely gain useful information and get your relevant queries answered. Learn the tips and tricks on home purchase and find out where and when to buy as well as know your rights as a purchaser,” said Ng.

Ng said that demand for properties is still high even though the market is currently quite sluggish. However, end-financing issues faced by interested house buyers have dampened the actual sale.

“Currently, only Hong Leong Bank and Maybank have confirmed their participation. Hence, we urge more financial institutions to come forward and participate in this MAPEX to assist the public in their purchases. Financing is most essential in house purchase and there is no other better platform than MAPEX for financial institutions to promote their products and packages to a target audience,” he added.

Ng pointed out that not only is MAPEX the longest running and biggest property exposition in the nation, it is also an expo that is “by the Developers, for the Developers and of the Developers.

“We still have some booths available so [developers should] act now and contact MAPEX Secretariat to avoid disappointment,” he said.
