I like saving money and being practical. For someone who is planning her wedding, I take the costs involved seriously. The tricky part is finding that perfect balance between cost-efficiency while still delivering on the memorable once-in-a-lifetime event. It’s all about balancing the costs and managing expectations.

For me, a garden wedding is an underrated option which should top the list. While kenduris and such are commonplace in Malaysia, what comes to mind is the heat, probability of rain, and hassles of setting up and then cleaning up your home after an exhausting day.

Consider this instead – indoor garden venues designed to survive any weather, while retaining the garden feel, at pretty affordable rates. Here are more benefits of garden weddings:

Natural light and beauty equals best photographs

Garden weddings require minimal to no decoration as the natural backdrop of lush greenery provides for stunning wedding photographs. If you desire a certain theme, simply add DIY decorations to natural elements like wooden photo frames and white fairy lights hanging from a tree branch. It’s chic and cheap!

Setia City Convention Centre

A pre-wedding photo shoot is not necessary as some of your best pictures can be captured on your wedding day. Besides, there’s nothing quite like being surrounded by nature.

Intimate and personal

Garden weddings create a sense of intimacy regardless of the size of your guest list. These semi-formal, almost casual settings offer guests freedom to dress more comfortably and a relaxed atmosphere to the ceremony that will be memorable for both you and your guests.

Glasshouse at Seputeh

All-in-one venue and cost-efficient

Unlike hotel banquets with rigid wedding packages, most garden venues offer guests the flexibility to bring in their preferred vendors, from caterers to decorators, without a surcharge. Engage your favourite caterers and bring in as much alcohol you need without worrying about pesky corkage charges.

Most importantly, as there’s nothing quite like saving rental on a second venue, take advantage of the convenience a garden venue offers by hosting both your ceremony and reception in the same place.

Book the garden venue for the full day and have your ceremony in the picturesque evening twilight, followed by an intimate dinner reception at night which will be nothing short of enchanting.

Puteh at Subang

Here are two garden venues in the Klang Valley that are ideal options for your garden wedding:

Puteh in Subang is an event space in Selangor nestled within 1.6 acres of lush greenery that comes with a gazebo ideal for Registration of Marriage ceremonies. They also provide a fully air-conditioned marquee that accommodates up to 500 guests in a roundtable setting, and where you can have your reception after the ceremony. There is ample parking at the venue and rental starts from RM8,000++.

Glasshouse at Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur offers its indoor garden venue for weddings and requires minimal to almost no extra decorations as the place has catered to many such events and is thus well-equipped. It can comfortably accommodate up to 35 round tables. Full-day rental starts from RM12,000++.

Both the venues allow you to bring in decorators, caterers and alcohol at no extra charge.

If you want an all-in-one package but not hotels as a venue, here are two suitable places:

Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor offers wedding packages. The outdoor gazebo is ideal for wedding ceremonies and the dinner can be held at the ballroom which accommodates up to 1,000 guests. Their all-inclusive packages start at RM120++ per head.

Timber Deck in Ciao Ristorante

Another place is Ciao Ristorante in Kampung Pandan. It is KL’s oldest Italian restaurant and resembles a rustic Venetian country house with a cosy garden and a small lake. You may opt to exchange vows in the indoor glasshouse or say “I do” outdoors on the Timber Deck which overlooks a golf course. After the ceremony, move on to the canopy which seats up to 300 guests for the reception. While you aren’t allowed to bring in your caterer and there is a minimum spending fee involved, be rest assured the food and atmosphere at Ciao are worth your while.

There is no need to worry about the weather with any of these venues as each has its Plan B. Go the extra mile by providing sunglasses or flip-flops as wedding favours. Don’t forget to get in touch with an officiant for your registration of marriage ceremony.

Another compelling reason to opt for garden weddings is, some of the venues are pet-friendly. Ever dreamed of having a beloved family pet as your quaint and adorable ring-bearer? Go for it. Invite your furry friends to your special day.
